St. Pierre and Miquelon
We leave Canada and enter France. The islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon are French territory.
These islands have a long history as a fishing community, but if you’ve seen Peaky Blinders, you know this was a popular port for bootleggers during prohibition.
St. Pierre. France maintains a foothold in North America here. Like St. John’s, this was once a thriving fishing port, but now depends on France to support the local economy.

Ile aux Marins. This island, across the harbor from St. Pierre, no longer has residents, but the historical buildings are maintained by people from St. Pierre who are interested in maintaining the rich history of this fishing community that was founded in the 1800’s.
