L’Anse aux Meadows
Five hundred years before Columbus reached the new world, Vikings landed in North America and founded a settlement here, at L’Anse aux Meadows, in the far north of Newfoundland.
Our ship, the National Geographic Explorer. About 100 passengers. Being a relatively small ship, the guests are welcome to visit the bridge at any time. Our room was quite comfortable.
The site of the Viking settlement was discovered relatively recently.
A reconstructed version of the Viking settlement is nearby, giving visitors an idea of what life for the Vikings was like.
Each evening, expert naturalists and historians would give presentations onboard about the wonders of the St. Lawrence seaway.
We ate very well on our voyage!
